Leave a Legacy

Legacy Giving

Christ will be with us always. What comfort and hope! While we cannot make the same claim, through creating a legacy gift we can continue to be present, even after our physical death, for those people and ministries we hold dear.

Legacy giving is for everyone who owns anything and who has loved ones. You need only a substantial desire that your life’s accumulated gains become a testament to the good works God has already begun in you.  You don’t need substantial means.

How to Create a Legacy Gift

Step 1:   Prayerfully determine your legacy priorities –loved ones, Saint Boniface and other institutions; and determine your current financial situation and future financial needs.

Step 2:   Review the types of gifts to become familiar with the various legacy giving vehicles, and see which are suited to meeting your financial needs and priorities.

Step 3:   Pull together your financial and planning information –bank and brokerage accounts, stock holdings, real estate information, insurance policies, IRAs; and lists of family, friends and institutions you wish to continue supporting.

Step 4:   Meet with a professional advisor to design your gift plans.

Step 5:   Advise your loved ones and St. Boniface of your plans.

Types of Gifts

  • Bequest in a will

A will is the most straight forward and common of planned gifts. Several options are listed below.

Make an outright bequest of a specified dollar amount, a specified percentage of the estate, or a specific asset.

Name Saint Boniface Church as a remainder beneficiary to receive remaining funds once previously named bequests/beneficiaries, expenses and taxes have been covered.

    Name Saint Boniface Church as a contingent beneficiary to receive funds if other named beneficiaries are no longer living;

Add a codicil to an existing will, to avoid rewriting the entirety of the will.

Sample language: “I bequeath to the Endowment of St Boniface Episcopal Church, 5615 Midnight Pass Road, Sarasota, Florida, ____% of my estate [or the sum of $_______; or _____ asset].”

  • Real Estate and other appreciated property

You can benefit Saint Boniface Church using real estate or other real property by:

    Giving the property outright.

Selling the property and donating the proceeds to Saint Boniface Church.

Transferring the title or deed to Saint Boniface Church while you continue to use and benefit from the property and any proceeds during your lifetime.

Using appreciated property to establish a deferred Gift.

  • Lifetime income donor

Establishing an instruments such as a Charitable Gift Annuity, or a Charitable Remainder Trust, or a Pooled Income Fund allows you to convert an asset that has appreciated, yet that has a low yield, into a gift to Saint Boniface Church. This gift can, at the same time, provide a steady income stream to you or your named beneficiary. In addition, these planned giving tools may also provide deductions in income tax, capital gains tax and/or estate tax.

  • Life insurance

Naming Saint Boniface Church as a beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy is one of the easiest, most affordable ways to provide for the future ministries of Saint Boniface Church. In some cases you may receive a tax deduction, and future premiums may be tax deductible.

A financial planner, attorney or other such professional can further explain the details of each of the above, and help determine which would be right for you.

Boniface Cornerstone Society

Each legacy gift is as unique as its donor's ideas and ideals. Some gifts are as basic as a bequest in a will, others are more more involved such as charitable gift annuities. Some come directly to St. Boniface, and some benefit family members first, with St. Boniface receiving the gift once these loved ones have died. Some are designated for a special purpose and others are undesignated. But all build a vibrant future for our parish and the community we reach out to.
