Nikki Seger

Nikki serves as the Assistant Rector of St Boniface on Siesta Key. Nikki moved to Sarasota in December of 2021 having been the Rector of St. Michael’s Lansing (Diocese of Michigan).

With her moniker “the priest who loves to play,” Nikki has long been a professional fly-fishing instructor. She finds the connection between fly fishing and spirituality an easy transition. Annually, she conducts retreats for vestries, other church folk and women who want to learn more about fly fishing. Yet it is equally likely that she is out and about in the community where Nikki fishes for people.

Tackling a career change to ministry, after managing a cardiology research lab and then managing an MBA leadership program, was only the latest in the ambitious quests Nikki has pursued. She has run the grueling 135-mile Ultramarathon in Death Valley – twice.

“As a priest, fly angler, runner, wife (to Jennifer) and cat & dog companion (to Logan, Rosie & Deacon), I’m all about playing and praying. Relationship to others and God’s creation fills me with joy and love. If I can share my passions, I am happiest.”

Her diaconal education was accomplished through the School for Ministry at the Diocese of Southwest Florida.

Elisa has two daughters, Inga and Anna Sofia, and two grandchildren, Annika and Axel.

"As a deacon, my ministry is one of servanthood, seeking to be a link between the Church and the world, to be a symbol of Christ's presence when providing pastoral care to those in need, and to serve a liturgical role at the altar."

Deacon is a five-year-old, thirty-five pound, “lab mix” <wink, wink>. Jennifer and Nikki adopted Deacon when he was eight weeks old and have loved him fiercely ever since. Besides his human companions, his family is complete with cat brother Logan and sister Rosie. Deacon comes to work most days with Priest Nikki and allows her to share his office. Deacon’s main ministry is to comfort staff and visitors. He also engages in outreach to the neighborhood dogs on Siesta Key. When not in his office, Deacon can be found in the kid’s playground chasing toys and chewing sticks.
