Choirs at St. Boniface

The St. Boniface Choir serves as the backbone of the music program, providing choral leadership for the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist service on Sunday mornings and for monthly Evensong services at 5:00 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month (September - May). On "Fifth Sundays," the choir offers a choral mass. Recent settings include those by Haydn, Mozart, Vierne and Darke. During Advent and Lent, the choir offers occasional Compline services as well.

The auditioned choir includes both volunteer and professional singers, along with several choral scholars. Though the work is hard, the rewards are great, both for the singers and for the congregation. Soli Deo Gloria! The choir enjoys a very familial atmosphere at rehearsals and occasional social gatherings. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. This schedule is often subject to change, depending on need and scheduling. Weekly rehearsals are suspended from early June through late August. For those interested in joining, please contact Dr. Guyer. Musicianship skills are a must, particularly sightsinging. Vocal coaching may be suggested prior to admittance into the choir.

Handbell Choir

The St. Boniface Handbell Choir has been ringing for over three decades. While members have come and gone, the spirit has remained. The group is fun-loving and hard working and enjoys presenting their love for "all things bells" in the 10 AM Eucharist Service on Sundays mornings. The choir rings approximately once a month from October through June. Pieces range in difficulty from basic ringing to using the "singing bell" technique. The church is blessed with a recently refurbished, five-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells, along with three octaves of Malmark Handchimes.

The handbell choir is entirely volunteer-based, though several have extensive musical backgrounds, including those who also play handbells in Ring Sarasota, the premier handbell choir in southwest Florida. For many, ringing in the St. Boniface Handbell Choir represents a way to connect music to worship in a uniquely team-oriented fashion. Whereas singing in a choir means generally having several voices on one part, ringing in a handbell choir means only one person per part. This requires a lot of team-building, which can make rehearsals both challenging and enriching. If you would like to join the choir, please contact Dr. Guyer.

Music at St. Boniface

The St. Boniface organ and Parish Choir, well known throughout Sarasota, have been the focal point of our excellent music and liturgy for several decades. The current church architecture design involved input from the directors of music at that time, ensuring the acoustic and aesthetic of the church was conducive for live musical performance - both during worship and musical concerts.
