What is Holy Week?
Holy Week commemorates the events of Jesus entering Jerusalem during the last week of his life. Jesus arrives victoriously, acclaimed as the Messiah (Palm Sunday), yet is soon subject to being placed on trial betrayed to the religious authorities by one of his disciples, Judas. On the night prior to his trial, Jesus spends time with the disciples reassuring them that they will be comforted by God's spirit in his absence. Jesus washes their feet and shares a last supper with them (Maundy Thursday). Jesus appears before the Roman authorities and is condemned to death (Good Friday). The body of Jesus is laid in a tomb. At dawn, on the third day of death, disciples arrive to discover the tomb is empty -- and that Jesus has risen to new life! (Easter).
The events of that week are referred to as the Paschal Mystery and are celebrated with liturgy, music, prayer, and reflection. These worship services center our spiritual lives and embolden our Christian witness to the world. Come journey with us at St Boniface to deepen your connection to Christ and to community.
