Church School

Children in Pre-K to 5th grade are welcome to join us on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. A friendly greeter at the Welcome Table can direct you and your child to the classroom. The children return to their parents in church just before communion.

Our curriculum is Weaving God’s Promises.

On the first Sunday each month, children join their families for the entire service and the older elementary-age students participate with the Worship Team as acolytes and lay readers. They are shepherded and coached by the clergy for this special experience.

Year One: Weaving Our Faith

  • The story of our salvation and our story from the fall of humankind to our redemption by Jesus Christ and how we fit into this story.
  • Theme: God loves us and stays with us—no matter what—to bring us back to God’s divine love.
  • Focuses on the Gospel of Matthew, emphasizing the Kingdom of God and our Anglican tradition and faith.

Year Two: Weaving Together the Family of God

  • How we became God’s people and part of the household of God, the Communion of Saints.
  • Theme: Once we were no people, but now we are God’s people.
  • Focuses on the Gospel of John, with stories of individual encounters with Jesus, transformation in God’s love, and the saints of the church.

Year Three: Weaving God’s Beloved Community

  • How we are called by God to live in loving community with one another and fulfill God’s promises for us in the healing of all creation.
  • Theme: We are called by God to live as One Body in Christ, loving our neighbors as ourselves.
  • Focuses on the Gospel of Luke, with emphasis on our holy calling to care for others and the gospel values of welcome, inclusion, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, justice, and liberation.

Episcopal

  • Theological and historical information on our Anglican/Episcopal history and heritage is part of every session plan.
  • Class sessions are structured around the Holy Eucharist as set forth in the Book of Common Prayer:
  • Gathering: Simple activities focusing the children on the lesson to come.
  • Telling the Sacred Story (Liturgy of the Word): Telling the biblical story.
  • Prayer (Prayers of the People): Giving thanks to God for God’s presence with us.
  • Sharing (Holy Communion): A time of fellowship and snacks with time for sharing that week’s story.
  • Sending Forth: Closing prayer sends the children/youth to worship or back to their homes.

Each teacher has been background checked, screened, and taken our Safeguarding All God’s Children class for the protection of your child.
