CELEBRATING A MINISTRY:  St. Boniface Thrift Shop 1984-2014
For the past 30 years this shop near the corner of Gulf Gate and Superior has served as a hub of compassion and action that stretched across our community and beyond.  The generous donations of clothing items, housewares, books and music did double duty.  Of course, they provided more than a few good bargains for savvy shoppers!  But more importantly, they were the source of hundreds of grants to worthy organizations in our community.  The nearly $300,000 the Thrift Shop board awarded over the years helped the hungry; at-risk youth, teens and families; those with disabilities; the homeless; seniors; our men and women serving overseas; and those needing mentoring and education.  To run this ministry required nearly 50 volunteers, working in shifts at the shop, as well as serving on the board and walking the run-way at the annual fashion show.  Collectively, they gave  3,400 hours each year. Thanks be to these volunteers, the donors and shoppers for a ministry well done!
