OUTREACH SUMMARY
Love one another as I have loved you. Saint Boniface parishioners have taken to heart this command from Jesus! Over the Winter and Spring, here’s where we have been busy spreading love, compassion and healing:
  • Our Giving Tree always yeilds a bumper crop.  This year it's provided our Preschool with over $1,000 in financial support and teaching tools and toys; given over $1,000 worth of infant necessities – like diapers and blankets, and is gathering backpacks and school supplies for kindergartners for Healthy Families, a community organization working with at-risk families; sent countless care packages to our troops at Bagram Airbase, bringing a bit of comfort and home to those stationed so far away; given backpacks filled with school supplies for kindergartners in the Healthy Families program.
  • Our blood drives have donated 43 pints of blood – that’s nearly 150 lives touched or even saved thanks to parishioners rolling up their sleeves.
  • The Thrift Shop has continued its tradition of supporting worthy agencies in the community with grants totaling $3,250 to Mothers Helping Mothers, Healthy Families, our Preschool, our Youth Groups, Brothers and Sisters Doing the Right Thing, Senior Friendship Centers Southeastern Guide Dogs and Community Mobile Meals.
  • The Youth Groups have walked and fasted to help stamp out hunger with their participation in the Thirty-Hour Famine and the local Crop Walk.  In late July a team of 26 (21 youth and 5 adult leaders) spent a week with Group Workcamps repairing and rehabilitating homes in Rochester, NY.  Another team are finalizing plans for their mission trip to Honduras later this summer.
  • Collectively, parishioners have sent $4,200 to Episcopal Relief and Development and shelter and camping supplies to bring aid to the victims of Haiti’s devastating earthquake.
  • Our campus has served homeless families with children during our Family Promise of Sarasota host week; provided meeting space for Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon; and welcomed those looking for respite and reflection offered by our labyrinth, outdoor chapel, Healing Mission and spiritual garden.

BACKPACKS PACK SUPPORT
Backpacks - 2010.2Our July Giving Tree supported Healthy Families, a program of the Florida Center for Child and Family Development, working to stem abuse and neglect in at-risk families in our community.  We collected supply-filled backpacks --70 of them!-- for kindergarteners in the program as they headed off to their first day of school.  Click here to read a thank you letter from the Florida Center's President , and here to read a letter from Healthy Families' Vice President.
