We’re half-way through our Summer Camp program! The first session featured Ms. Mo working with all the children on a wide variety of fun and stimulating activities which the children thoroughly enjoyed. During the next two weeks, Ms. Sherry, our fitness teacher, worked with each age group on wonderful fitness activities. Their gross motor skills were certainly addressed by her efforts. The children really enjoyed working with both teachers.
We were pleased to have an author of children’s books, Jan Hasselbring, present two of her books to the children. They focused on the birds found in the Pelican Cove area. A part-time resident from Michigan, Ms. Hasselbring was enchanted by all the fowl in our area and decided to write books for children to enjoy about these wonderfully beautiful birds, Andy Discovers Peanut Butter and What Do You See Mrs. Night Heron?
Jim Palermo, owner of the Oasis Café and Senior Warden at Saint Boniface, demonstrated the process of making “All American Berry Shortcake” for our older children. Jim brought in the ingredients to make biscuits, whipped cream, and a variety of berries. The children were able to make their own biscuits which was such a treat. After mixing all the ingredients, the children were able to savor the “fruits of their labors”. What fun was had by all!
The preschool is looking for a cadre of volunteers to work in our classrooms during this coming year. If you’re interested in supporting our preschool, we need help in a variety of capacities, i.e. cleaning tables and assisting with lunch, supervising children at nap time so teachers may attend special training, or reading a book with one or more children. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
