The care in health care

Letters to the Editor, Sarasota Herald Tribune.

With our national focus on health care, we sometimes lose sight of the people involved. An emergency and hospitalization for a family member this past week reminded me what competent and compassionate people can do.

From the fire department's emergency medical technicians, to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital staff and emergency room doctors, to radiology, nursing, medical support, administration, food and cleaning services, every person we met was competent, caring and compassionate.

For those who worry that our country is moving toward a health care system where one might not be able to choose his own doctor, I can say that, from the first phone call to the final pick up of medicine from the pharmacist, every single one of the people we met was a stranger, and everyone did a great job.
